NCstudio delivers a Nordic-inspired workspace for marketing brand Lunio

The Manchester-based studio used repurposed furniture, sustainable materials and smart lighting to create a workplace of wellbeing.

Perspex glass and Lunio branding

To support its employee expansion, digital marketing brand Lunio appointed NCstudio (formerly NoChintz) as designers for its new headquarters in Manchester. Drawing reference from the Nordic brand’s origins, NC’s colour scheme is influenced by the northern lights and complemented by bespoke touches such as Nordic hut-inspired pods.

Lighting details feature a palette of saturated colours that emulate a ‘soothing, celestial feel’ for workers nearby, while to enhance wellbeing real plants were dotted about the office to improve air quality, add greenery and eliminate plastic.

Extra care was taken with material selections in Lunio to ensure sustainability and longevity was considered throughout. Much of the furniture was repurposed including high benches, which were transformed into coworking tables via shortening the leg heights, and task chairs and desks taken from Lunio’s old workspace and modified, ensuring items still fit-for-use didn’t unnecessarily end up in landfill.

NCstudio chose plywood and FSC-certified valchromat (recycled pine wood, branches and chips from softwood forests) as the basis for new joinery pieces and Camira was selected for much of the upholstery due to its natural fabric collections derived from renewable sources.

A series of private meeting pods, phone booths, board rooms, work desks and a library frame the core space while in the middle, an open-plan breakout zone brings the team together and doubles-up as an events area. The number of different workstations ensures the office can grow with the team, reducing Lunio’s need for future moves.

Future plans for the space include hosting free activities for the team such as yoga, coffee-making workshops and craft sessions – all made possible from the design and flow of the space.
