With a vision of creating ‘one community’ from two separate business units, M Moser Associates has created a cohesive modern workplace tailored to a global London-based consulting firm. Using the ample 50,000 sq ft space available, M Moser has built in multiple work typologies to support a variety of employee behaviours and collaboration needs. This includes a choice of designated quiet areas, bookable meeting rooms, a work lounge on the thirteenth level with access to the terrace and multiple focus rooms. Built with the future in mind, the firm’s new office space will accommodate the current 600+ employees as well as an expected annual headcount increase of 8% over the next decade.
As cultural integration was a key focus of the project, the central staircase acts as a focal point in the building to encourage movement and interaction between the two units. Practically, these stairs also provide access to shared amenities such as the work lounge and terrace, promoting equality across each department.
Gurvinder Khurana, Director of M Moser Associates, said, “To reinforce the ‘one community’ concept, timber baffles create a unifying architectural element that winds through the entire space.” These timber elements are deftly combined with original industrial materials of the base build in a playful approach that celebrates fluidity and integration. Also included in the project were several environmentally conscious choices, including GREENGUARD Gold Certified rubber flooring on the staircase and Durat surfaces that adhere to ultra-low VOC requirements.
Inclusivity was another of M Moser’s core design principles, with features including a reception desk that accommodates conversations with visitors at both standing and seated levels. Finishings on doorhandles were also designed for maximum accessibility, catering to closed fists or a loose grip, and an audio induction loop in the firm’s large multi-purpose room allows employees with hearing impairments to utilise the space with ease. Similarly, varied colour and lighting options in phone booths or focus rooms will help those sensitive to visual and auditory distractions create more comfortable, productive work environments.
The firm’s emphasis on internal and external events also guided the design process, as the company regularly hosts themed events to celebrate its international ethos. The multi-purpose room is therefore a large-scale setting for up to 90 people, featuring flexible furniture and a versatile layout to accommodate everything from formal presentations to training sessions and informal gatherings.
