Built in 1855 and formerly known as Breckenridge House, McLellan Works is the latest workspace offering inside Glasgow’s historic McLellan Galleries on Sauchiehall Street. The flexible coworking space is now home to the likes of Anime Limited (the UK’s largest independent distributor of Japanese animation), Mental Health Foundation Scotland and home construction company, Cala.
Glasgow and London-based c2 Concepts transformed the interiors throughout McLellan Works into a contemporary suite of offices that incorporate sustainable materials. c2 also worked with four of the building’s occupiers including data analytics firm, Experian – with its high-pitched ceilings, drum-shaped breakout space and baskets of greenery hanging above the desks. A tactile living wall also features inside Experian, signaling entry into a quiet, soundproofed space for concentration and video calls.

Inside Anime Limited, c2 created an airy, playful space with clean lines and multiple references towards Japanese architecture and imagery to reflect the film genre. “We were very conscious of the need to give each space its own distinctive stamp, while creating continuity of look and feel that would remind visitors of the building’s architectural integrity,” comments c2’s design director, Jean Camplisson.

“The different personalities of each of the businesses are clearly visible, while features like the inclusion of repurposed furniture, salvaged from landfill, exhibit a clear commitment to sustainability,” continues Camplission. c2 specified Rype Office to supply sustainable, corporate products with a low carbon footprint in the communal areas.
