Mix-Interiors-Issue-222 Cover

Welcome to issue 222. Inside we explore the notion of ‘home’, as a new central theme in the concept development and design of commercial interiors – from softer, more comfortable workplaces, to hotels that aim to conjure a sense of familiarity and ease. It’s a subject of some debate, as we chart in our latest roundtable, asking: is the ‘homeification’ of the office a positive or a problem?

We also speak to titans of industry Helen Berresford, of ID:SR, and Zoe and Layo Paskin, of the recently-founded PASKIN & Associates. Berresford is, of course, a visionary of workplace design, responsible for keeping the BBC’s spaces relevant, while the Paskins are a brother and sister duo responsible for some of this country’s most celebrated hospitality destinations – recently completing work on the landmark Gleneagles Townhouse in Edinburgh.

In projects, we explore a series of ground-breaking openings, including the BBC Studios’ new Bristol HQ from HOK (a first-look print exclusive for Mix), Clockwise’s latest site in Southampton designed by Hawkins\Brown, an eco-prototype by Gran Melia and the Mayfair stay that everyone’s talking about, The Twenty Two. Elsewhere we talk sustainability with Foster + Partners, charting the practice’s role in leading the industry; we touch upon the dark side of the metaverse; and look back at London Design Festival, curating the highlights from a bumper year.

Enjoy,

Ekho Studio and Karndean collaborated for this issue’s psychedelic cover artwork – inspired by the post-pandemic creative reset and reflecting the trend ‘random chaos’ using abstract shapes, disjoined patterns and clashing colours.
