Crafted by artisans using Yakisugi, the ancient Japanese technique of charring wood to produce deep silvered tones, Woodworks’ Carbonised Collection meshes brutalist design with wooden flooring.
Yakisugi has many names, but always involves the use of an open fire or controlled flame to char wood before cooling, cleaning and treating it with natural oils to create a dark visual style and uniquely tactile feel. Once the wood is charred, Woodworks set to work brushing the malleable surface to remove soft summer and some harder winter growth, leaving behind sculptural contours in a variety of mineral and organic tones.
Artisans finish the Carbonised Collection by hand, with Woodworks’ Naked Skin Lacquer or Restoration Oil – the outcome is a flooring that will last a lifetime in modern projects.
