Universal Design Studio collaborated with The Office Group on their Berlin workspace Pressehaus Podium. Located in the heart of Berlin, the interior design honours the building’s rich history whilst embracing modern functionality. Theapproach focused on warmth and human scale, counterbalancing the steel and glass facade with tactile materials and vibrant accents. The design concepts of ‘recording history’ and ‘archive’ drove the creation of functional spaces marked by stacking, rigorous grids, and large volumes that define the interior and exterior. Attention to privacy and spatial variation within the transparent architecture ensures a balanced experience for occupants.

The project also prioritises wellbeing with amenity spaces like a garden room and yoga space, all characterised by natural materials and thoughtful detailing. Universal’s intervention offsets the precision and sharpness of the architecture with the softness, warmth and tactility of the sculptural interventions, creating a dynamic and inviting space for work and community engagement. Throughout the building, materials were selected for their sustainability and longevity, ensuring that they would age gracefully over time and contribute to a timeless aesthetic. Natural timber, cork, tan leather, and glazed tiles were chosen for their inherent beauty and eco-friendly properties, while engineered materials were used sparingly and with integrity.
