tp bennett – Brút & Kaffi Ó-le at Radisson Blu Hotel, Iceland

Mixology23 Project of the Year: Bar and Leisure

Project Team

  • Radisson Blu, Verkthing, Eik fasteignafelag, VSÓ, Wastberg Brokis, Vibia, Fontanaarte, Muuto, Deltale CPH, Forêt Collection By Oscarono, Lane By Mutina, & Tradition, Thonet, FDB Møbler, Gubi, Carl Hansen

Housed in one of Reykjavik’s oldest and most prestigious buildings, the Radisson Blu strategically repositioned its food and beverage offering by co-launching two new venues, Brút a high end yet casual seafood restaurant, and Kaffi Ó-le a speciality coffee shop both accessible from the refreshed hotel lobby and street frontage access. The landmark historic building, once home to Iceland’s first steamship company, still retains many original features and details such as its elegant, refined façade and its stunning central green marble staircase complete with art deco ironwork balustrade.

The materials within the fit-out were selected to complement the existing built elements and art deco features, taking into consideration sustainability, durability and functionality. In most areas, tp bennett retained existing features to preserve the character of the building and re-use where possible.

Planting, Biophilia and clever lighting play a key role in bringing the space to life, particularly in some of the areas of the lobby where there is limited daylight. Bold artwork by a local photographer also play an interesting role in referencing the local Icelandic environment – bringing the outside in.
