Studio Sutton’s design for a contemporary workspace within a neoclassical former bank in Stockholm’s Gamla Stan, uses a calm and sophisticated palette of materials, refined joinery pieces and timeless furniture and lighting, inspired by the beautiful original features of the existing building. Lilla Nygatan 23 was built in the 19th century for the Enskilda Bank and features highly decorative interiors, generous floor to ceiling heights and large, arched windows. These qualities attracted Spaces (IWG plc) to convert the building into an amenity rich, flexible office and coworking destination, with the look and feel of an understated yet luxury hotel.

Studio Sutton arranged the key communal spaces – including a welcoming ground floor reception, elegant first floor business club, and meeting centre and dining space in the vaulted basement – across the three main floors of the building, all linked by the beautiful original staircase and hallway that becomes part of the everyday user experience. Connecting users with the historic grandeur of the building, Spaces Lilla Nygatan provides a premium, hotel-like experience for its business community, aligning with the growing ‘hotelification’ of offices, providing spaces which more effectively cater for the needs of the hybrid workforce.
