ONE EXPRESS is a Grade II* listed building designed by Sir Evan Owen Williams at the heart of Ancoats. A full refurbishment involved the careful exposure of all of the original huge structural frame, floors and ceiling soffits of the buildings interiors, and celebrating those features with new modernist fabric interventions. The new and old fabric parts are clearly and deliberately defined. Located in the basement is a fully subscribed gym for both tenant and public use. At ground floor a new reception, café, varying size office units and communal break out area and kitchen. Varying suite size offices are located at first and second floors all with an integral meeting room and kitchen. Uniting these spaces is a metal plate feature stair cantilevering into the central lightwell. Four existing monumental columns and cross beams dominate the floor plates and have been painted to their original ochre yellow colour.
