For four years running, Squire & Partners in collaboration with Stone Federation has been invited to design Stone Tapestry, an explorative natural stone exhibit located at the heart of the Stone Gallery at Surface Design Show.
In 2024, the interactive installation took a new approach. Stone Tapestry: Beyond the Surface aims to spotlight not only the beauty, adaptability and sustainability of the UK’s native stones, but also its ability to be used for more than an external surface – exploring its properties as a structural material. Using post-tensioned reclaimed stone fragments, the latest installation was brought to life through the artisanal craftsmanship of The Stonemasonry Company with cutting-edge engineering by Webb Yates Engineers.
The design emphasises how a meticulous integration of stone – coupled with design elements that accentuate its natural hues and textures – can significantly elevate sustainability benchmarks compared to conventional materials.
