Born from the desire to create something beautiful yet purposeful, original founders Justin and Hannah Floyd created Solidwool – a material with a fibreglass look-and-touch but made from wool. The end result is a substance with a story that connects people to the land it has come from.
UK-manufactured, Solidwool is a unique composite made up of British Herdwick Wool and bio-resin. Since 2020, new custodians Roger Oates Design have supported the development of Solidwool by re-engineering the material, developing production and re-designing the Hembury chair. Launched in 2021, the latest edition of the Hembury Chair is made with twice as much wool as the initial conception, and half the amount of bio-resin.
