Conceived to signify a clear shift to hybrid working, Grant Thornton commissioned Oktra to design an innovative ‘destination office’ at its new Birmingham space, to entice its people back to an office setting by bridging the gap between work and home.
A need for greater agility and flexibility in the space shaped the design of the firm’s new office space, to enable colleagues to reconnect in the office and drive more collaboration across teams. The office’s tea point acts as the community focal point throughout the day and promotes a collective sense of unity. To balance this, Oktra has introduced retreat spaces across the office that deliberately feel more intimate, such as the ‘focus tunnel’ – a collection of single-person booths which allow for greater privacy away from the office floor.
A sense of wellbeing permeates the space, with a mix of free-standing plants and green walls to incorporate biophilic elements. The design team carefully selected acoustics to provide the correct level of sound absorption, while selecting panels that resemble artwork to maintain the design aesthetic.
