MCM – 17 Charterhouse Street, London

Mixology22 Project of the Year Finalist: Workplace over 70,000 sq ft

MCM-17 Charterhouse Street

17 Charterhouse represents the transformation of a collection of 1970’s disparate buildings, into a re-invented modern ‘campus’ forming the new global headquarters for Anglo American and De Beers – a new collaborative, social ‘heart’ and courtyard that helps to unite businesses within its organisation.

The scheme consists of a back-to-frame ‘deep refurbishment’ of the original building, including rationalising of the cores, additional new-build extensions, as well as a complete re-cladding of the building to revolutionise its performance and its perception. The project has sustainability, amenity, and well-being at its heart. By reusing the existing structure, it has brought new life back to the site without the need for total demolition, ensuring a low carbon footprint and reduced capital cost. Sustainable initiatives with new smart technology and green roofs are integrated throughout, while a series of terraces and external spaces offer alternative work settings, essential for a progressive modern organisation.
