Purchased by the Fragrance Group in 2016, The Municipal now sits as part of Accor’s boutique MGallery arm, following a £360m renovation that includes a new-build bronze extension housing a pool and spa. The building is now full of life once again as the glittering, five-star Municipal hotel, transformed by design studios Koncept ID, architects Falconer Chester Hall and Grayland Interior Design. The brief was to convert these former council offices into a brand new, beautiful hotel space in the heart of Liverpool – The Municipal now boasts luxurious amounts of space with 168 rooms, 11 suites, bar, restaurant and tea room.

Oil paintings of famous Liverpudlians sit proudly on display alongside maritime and nautical accessories as a nod to Liverpool’s Albert Dock, and original listed features of the 150-year-old building have been lovingly restored and proudly shown off. A sympathetic balance between the old and new, key details from the building’s past have been restored and celebrated, including a cast iron lift, original tiling and a grand staircase.
