The BBC London Broadcasting House is the result of a 12-year redevelopment project, which has provided the BBC with a suitable home for the famous broadcasting corporation. Through its ongoing relationship with the BBC, ID:SR continued to make updates to the space, knitting into the existing fabric as the BBC’s requirements change and spaces flex to fit these needs. The redevelopment encompasses the refurbishment of the original 1932 Broadcasting House, the new Peel Wing and New Broadcasting House, a landmark in London and to viewers around the world. By creatively realigning workplace elements, the project creates a people-first mentality placing comfort at the core, reconnecting purpose with place.
The project is a re-imagination of how to use and celebrate existing architecture to uplift people and champion sustainability. The project exemplifies partnership powered by understanding BBC’s mission to inform, educate and inspire the nation. By unlocking human potential, the workplace now mirrors this enduring social commitment. The building stands ready to empower exceptional broadcasting today and into the future. The new BBC London Broadcasting House shows how sustainability arises most from rebirth, not rebuilding. Big emissions come from big demolitions; here, imaginatively refitting workplaces and upgrading furniture accumulate into an impactful refurbishment that dramatically cuts waste.
