Gensler, in a heartwarming industry collaboration, has crafted a secure haven for First Love Foundation in Tower Hamlets, London. The charity’s mission to combat poverty is embraced through a design driven by the goal of offering comfort and warmth. The ground floor client advice centre, a new addition, ensures a welcoming atmosphere with privacy for confidential discussions. Workstations, a reception area, and a ninth-floor suite facilitate support and fundraising work, while breakout spaces foster private conversations and collaboration. The office, conceptualised as a nurturing bird’s nest, exudes homeliness through a calming colour palette and donated furniture. This collaborative effort from the entire industry results in a functional, flexible, and accessible workspace that embodies a sense of community.

One of the key sustainability strategies employed is the integration of pre-loved, donated furniture, creating a circular economy ethos. This conscious choice not only reduces the demand for new resources but also minimises the environmental impact associated with manufacturing and transportation. The collaborative industry effort on this project plays a crucial role in the sustainability narrative: furniture suppliers, contractors, and volunteers generously donated their time, services, and products, emphasising a collective commitment to sustainable practices as well as the charity itself.
