Dexter Moren Associates’ interior concept for Malmaison York is inspired by the Brutalist architecture of the original 1960s office structure. The luxury hotel features 150 guestrooms and suites, a reception and lobby lounge, bar and restaurant, meeting and conference facilities, spa and gym. DMA’s design philosophy is location and context-led, rather than trend-led, helping to create interiors that stand the test of time – with subtle references to York’s confectionary manufacturing factories and the sixties art movement. Both the reception and bar spaces connect to the signature Malmaison Work+Play area, in a new extension to the rear of the building – featuring bookable meeting pods, extensive breakout spaces and self-service kitchens which all receive daylight from a centrally located clerestory.
