DAY Interior Design – The Old Fire Station, Salford

Mixology North23: Project of the Year – Positive Impact

Mixology North23, Project of the Year, Positive Impact, DAY Interiors Design

Project Team

  • Faithful + Gould, Schofield & Sons Ltd, Walmsley Associates, Open Market, Solus Ceramics, Havwoods, Dulux Trade, Factorylux, Polyflor, Ecopho, Altro, Gooding Aluminium

Developed by DAY Interior Design and the University of Salford, The Old Fire Station has established a unique offer and narrative that builds on Salford’s rich local heritage of brewing beer and baking bread.

The uniqueness of the café-bar concept contributed to the originality of the scheme and stood apart from the local market and in general the F&B sector. Combined with the fabric of an old fire station this created its own challenges and issues but added the charm and atmosphere that will maintain this space as a popular destination and a truly unique space.

Due to the social inequalities that the city of Salford continues to tackle alongside poverty, new developments such as The Old Fire Station create new opportunities for the local community of Salford and contribute to new jobs and skill sets such as supporting local business to supply the handmade crockery and add the special artisan touch. A vibrant cafe/bar venue that not only contributes to the cultural quarter of Salford but also integrates a community based strategic focus on education, research, innovation and industry engagement.
