Acknowledging their design work to only be possible because of a culture that supports, nurtures and develops their employees, in 2022 Buckley Gray Yeoman transitioned into an Employee Ownership Trust and sought other methods to enhance employee wellbeing, including the appointment of Rachael Owens as their first Head of Sustainability.
The practice has committed to RIBA’s 2030 Climate Challenge and is also honing in on WELL-principle designs on an increasing number of projects, as well as meeting more LETI design targets. The firm is also committed to supporting the representation of ethnic minorities and gender balance through improved talent attraction methods, which in turn has led to a positive increase in representation in the practice.
BGY has grown to 12 staff who work in the UK and abroad, with new projects recently commencing in Paris and Barcelona. Completed projects in the past 12 months include the Mercure City Centre Hotel in Antwerp and a hotel in Park Lane, London. The firm have also won new work abroad and opened a dedicated studio in Madrid to build on their longstanding work in Spain. Recently completed projects include the design and fit-out of the Ancora 40 office complex in Madrid and Moscova 33, a large new mixed-use scheme in Milan which partially reuses an existing building and colonnade.
