Buckley Gray Yeoman’s transformation of the iconic Heal’s Building demonstrates how sensitive design can revitalise a listed landmark for contemporary use. The project reimagines eight interconnected historic buildings as a unified workplace campus, while retaining Heal’s 200-year retail presence. A light-touch approach celebrates the building’s industrial heritage by exposing original features, with new interventions using complementary materials to balance old and new. Environmental performance was significantly enhanced, achieving an EPC A rating and BREEAM Excellent. The scheme also introduces a pedestrian-priority public realm and internal u2018street’, creating 140,000 sq ft of distinctive workspace and safeguarding the building’s future.
