Heriot-Watt University’s Dubai campus is an exemplar for the imaginative reuse of an existing building and for a vertical education campus.
Located in Knowledge Park, just a short distance from the world famous Palm, the seven-storey building provides the full mix of spaces required to fulfil the needs of students and staff in a contemporary university environment. Designed to house 4,000 students, representing over 100 nationalities, the campus aims to foster collaboration, innovation and community, whilst also providing spaces to engage with business and research partners.
The design combines references to both the University’s Scottish heritage and its Emirate setting. An imaginative and high-end specification ensures it meets expectations for the region while attracting high quality students and staff. The LEED Gold certified design, the first campus in the UAE to achieve this, uses the principles of biophilic design to promote health and wellbeing in its urban location.
