Hoxton Farms’ space in Shoreditch is somewhat of a surprising addition to the 24-storey, mixed-use building that houses it. Although unusual, it is a textbook case study of widespread urban reinvention. Faced with a chronic shortage of life sciences and bio-tech facilities across the UK, Hoxton Farms, in partnership with AIS, repurposed vacant, inner city commercial space to support their growth and further valuable scientific research and development.
Over 14,000 sq. ft, AIS supported Hoxton Farms in the creation of laboratories and workspace. The latter injects a dose of fun to the space, balancing the seriousness of the laboratories. External vistas are optimised, reinforcing the biotech firm’s London launch pad for furthering the cause of sustainable fats for the future with an open and transparent attitude, at scale and affordably to allow consumers to make increasingly more climate considerate choices at mealtimes. This is a space that allows the organisation to engage with its markets, share news of breakthroughs and communicate the benefits of their products. Hoxton Farms is a story of innovation and growth within British biotech, as a firm that now occupies former commercial office space, of which two thirds now lends itself to use as research and development laboratories.
