AECOM ID+S Studio – L’Escape

Mixology22 Project of the Year Finalist: Workplace 5,000-15,000 sq ft

L’Escape a unique ‘non working’ space. A separate environment but connected to the organisations office campus. L’Escape, a club providing a variety of settings- library/bar areas, games and gaming area, relaxation zones for meditation, massage and mindfulness; music studio for rehearsals, crashing out a few drum rolls or playlist creation; plus a multi-function space to host events, yoga and other classes plus music acts. A place for staff to drop-in during and after the working day. The project has a compelling narrative- an inherent focus on sustainability, colour psychology and sensorial aspects, also representing the values and leadership principles of the organisation. The business case for the project was set on the basis of a frugal budget necessitating an innovative yet cost conscious approach to be embraced by the Design Team.

L’Escape is designed for longevity using unconventional and unpretentious materials, as well as standard signature products. The ‘bespoke’ brief that was created provided a balance of functional, aesthetic and emotional considerations. Klein blue painted block work, clinker brick, drapes, plywood and plexiglass screens, movable tables- a unique collection yet always authentic. The colour palette took inspiration from the Parisian Way of Life and colour psychology effects are used to facilitate positive moods and behaviours. L’Escape is a flexible space that can be switched from a library lounge to an art gallery scenario using the plexiglass screens without disruption to associated spaces.
