Birch Selsdon, the u0091sisteru0092 hotel to the award-winning Birch Cheshunt, opened in Summer 2023 and was A-nrd Studiou0092s first hotel project. Extensively refurbished, the Birch Selsdon was a new concept hotel located in a 19th-century mansion in the historic Selsdon Park in South London. Repurposing existing features and fixtures where possible in line with the studio’s values, A-nrd injected a contemporary layer to the gothic manor utilising sustainable and recycled materials throughout. Drawing inspiration from the woodland that surrounded the manor and its Victorian heritage, interiors combined new and vintage furniture, lighting, and decor with contemporary art and bespoke A-nrd studio creations crafted in the UK by timber sourced from the estate as part of its rewilding programme.
A-nrd also designed communal areas including the lobby, the Orangery, the Meadow Bar, Vervain (the all-day restaurant), the Snug, The Hive Co-Working Space, meeting rooms and all 181 bedrooms and suites. Working with small and local studios and artists, the interiors feature bespoke lighting crafted from recycled glass by Michael Ruh studio, whille recycled bouclu00e9 and linen fabrics from the Yarn Collective have been used on upholstery and curtains to add a great texture and depth. Larger guest rooms also feature a carbon negative light cork floor by Amorim, whilst smaller rooms feature sisal.
