Mary Katrantzou partners with Villeroy & Boch for bold new tile collection
Inspired by the Victorian era, the collection is V&B’s first designer collaboration in over two decades.
Celebrated fashion designer Mary Katrantzou has partnered with Villeroy & Boch on VICTORIAN – an eight décor set tile collection. Inspired by the art of lepidopterists (those who study butterflies and moths), as well as the geometry of period ceramics, the collection marks Katrantzou’s first foray into tile design.
Nodding to the creative archives of both Katrantzou and Villeroy & Boch, butterfly and stamp motifs feature prominently. Speaking of the latter, Katrantzou says: “they exude the allure of faraway lands and make you dream about what each piece of paper represents, where it might have been and who has touched it on its journey round the world.”
Four coloured butterflies on either white or black backgrounds have been created using a combination of digital print and traditional screen-printing, with a 3D effect used to provide a subtly handcrafted appearance. Seen either straight-on or at a 45-degree angle, each butterfly tile is enhanced with either gold, black or perforated borders.
“Collaborating with Mary Katrantzou is a natural evolution, taking the brand in a new direction,” says Villeroy & Boch’s Managing Director, Dr Jörg Schwall.
