Shining through in the recycled and recyclable materials used to craft modulyss’ signature carpet tiles is a constant push for design innovation, and a dedication to responsible, eco-conscious solutions. The latest contribution to the Belgian manufacturer’s push for sustainable production is a new soft flooring collection, which is not only made with recycled and renewed materials but also debuts a revolutionary circular backing solution – offering a lightweight, bio-based backing that’s good for people and the planet.

Driving eco-innovation

New to modulyss’ product portfolio, the Plus collection was designed by product development manager Joris Peutz and comprises four distinctive designs: Monos, Artus, Forma and Textura. The collection’s array of textures and hues was designed with the art of creation in mind, helping to enrich and elevate any interior concept.

‘Monos’ offers a simple refinement through a broad choice of colours, including warm, earthy tones, calming neutral and dark shades and cool, jewel-like hues. ‘Artus’ collection’s patterns are inspired by textiles, a subtle nod to the rich textile history of Belgium, where the modulyss brand is rooted.

Softening the rigidity of contemporary spaces with organic patterns, ‘Forma’ pairs with Artus – the shared colour palette in the two designs ranges from warm, vibrant hues to neutral, darker shades that transition smoothly to cooler tones. ‘Textura’ offers textured simplicity through a mini-tuft design with minimalistic colours, while its dark neutrals, cool greys, and cosy beiges create spaces with a sense of calm.

All four designs in the Plus collection contain a significant portion of recycled materials, ranging from 47.7% to 63.6% of the tiles’ overall makeup. These lightweight tiles are easier to lift during installation and allow for more tiles to be transported at once, leading to a decrease in CO₂ transport emissions. Designed to be paired with the carpet tile ranges in the Plus collection, modulyss is also debuting its ecoBACK PLUS backing, a circular solution made with polyolefin and bio-based materials and containing 80% of recycled and renewed materials.

The emerging world of neuroaesthetics

The expanding field of neuroaesthetics is teaching us that textures and colours are not only instrumental in shaping the atmosphere of a space, but also in shaping the emotions of everyone who experiences it. Thoughtful flooring choices are therefore foundational to any design concept, which is why the Plus collection was crafted with a timeless colour palette, designed to create soothing and visually cohesive environments, explains designer Joris Peutz.

“As a designer, I fully appreciate the profound influence that colour choices have on our wellbeing,” he details. “That’s why this collection features a diverse palette tailored for various spaces, each with a specific purpose. Neutral and earthy tones foster a calm, intimate atmosphere, while cooler shades are perfect for office environments, boosting focus and productivity. I also included a selection of darker shades to bring a touch of luxury, ideal for retail or hotel interiors.”
