Let there be light: Seven standout products from LiGHT24
Off the back of this year’s LiGHT expo, the UK’s dedicated tradeshow for lighting specification, we explore the products and brands that hogged the proverbial limelight.
Taking place 20-21 November at Islington’s Business Design Centre, last week’s LiGHT expo showcased a plethora of standout products from 150+ lighting specifiers of global renown. Whether it’s a dramatic hotel lobby or a sculptural installation, these pieces are primed for projects making a bold statement with light.
Platek, Rippling Collection
Rippling designed by Jan Van Lierde for Platek
Inspired by small waves on a lake, the Rippling collection designed by Jan Van Lierde for Platek made its debut at LiGHT 2024. A sinuous tribute to craftsmanship, the textural quality of the hand-worked Venetian glass, with its subtle irregularities from the mouth-blowing process, makes every unit unique. With integrated high-intensity COB LEDs by Platek, each Rippling fixture benefits from a continuous two step paint process which generates a protective barrier against atmospheric agents and UV rays, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Light Forms, ELYS Collection
ELYS Collection by Light Forms
In partnership with Internova Professional Lighting, Light Forms unveiled the brand-new ELYS Collection at this year’s LiGHT event. Every fixture created embodies Light Forms commitment to artisanal quality, blending fine materials and timeless design to drastically illuminate spaces with sensitivity and refinement. Crafted from premium metals in The Netherlands, every ELYS light represents Dutch craftsmanship through minute attention to detail, to create impactful yet ambient interior atmospheres.
Saas instruments, Sense Light Swing
Sense Light Swing by Saas Instruments
Developed for large scale interior spaces, Saas Instrument’s Sense Light Swing is a new for 2024 light fixture that is also a kinetic art installation, revealed for the first time at LiGHT 2024. Inspired by the 2005 exhibition ‘Five Playful Chairs’ by Swedish product and interior designer Alexander Lervik, Sense Light Swing shape comes from a hanging swing for children. This iteration, made from transparent acrylic and lit from within by a strip of high-powered LEDs by Saas Instruments, gains movement from its long hanging cords, making for an eye-catching lighting solution for commercial projects.
Oscillaire by UniBox
Making its first appearance at LiGHT, Oscillaire is a sculptural lighting collection by Unibox, comprising laser etched LED light guide plates in optical grade acrylic panel. A carefully calculated matrix of dots captures and redirects the light emitted by the LED modules, so that it shines through the front face of the plate homogeneously. Subsequent heating allows the panel to be hand-moulded into a bespoke shape before being left to cool and harden. Suitable for suspension, ceiling mounting or wall mounting, Oscillaire products come in a range of light qualities and forms, thanks to the brand’s bespoke consultation service.
Tala, Sycamore Chandelier
Sycamore Chandelier by Tala
The graceful dispersal of seedpods was the main inspiration behind LiGHT exhibitor Tala’s Sycamore Chandelier; a light solution capturing the transition from summer to autumn through its diaphanous appearance and soft, warm light quality. Glass wings caress a brushed solid brass frame, embodying the translucent quality of Sycamore seeds, where 600LM dimmable bulbs allow users to showcase the dramatic cascade of the fixture’s shape or subtly hint to its organic form. Three or five tiered options of Sycamore Chandelier are available in glass colourways of Dawn Grey or Dusk Pink.
Klus, Cheetah Lounge installation
Profile Giza by KLUŚ
Returning to LiGHT for 2024, KLUŚ’ Profile Giza is a strip lighting solution that can be configured into a plethora of ambitious lighting systems, such as the striking neon installation at Miami’s Cheetah Lounge by Idesign. Renowned for their adaptability, Profile Giza can cleverly integrate a Wi-Fi network (meaning the system can be managed via smartphone, tablet or computer from anywhere in the world), intuitive touch and voice controls and wireless systems, this “pocket” technology increasing the ease of use and safety during large scale events and exhibitions.
The Light Lab, bespoke installation at SUSHISAMBA, W Edinburgh
Bespoke Ceiling Fitting by The Light Lab
Alongside the Glowline collection, The Light Lab also showcased several specialist project installations at LiGHT 2024, a testament to its ingenuity as an industry specifier as well as the versatility of its mainline products. Inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns, The Light Lab was specified by LIGHTALLIANCE to realise its concept for W Edinburgh’s award-winning SUSHISAMBA, the 10th floor fusion restaurant overlooking the Scottish capital, designed by Jestico + Whiles. Approximately 1000 copper tubes were strategically suspended from the ceiling, 500 of which fixed to a bespoke bayonet plate to illuminate a central tree sculpture. Blending to create one focal point, the sculpture and fixtures blend seamlessly, thanks to MDF joinery, SPI Controllable LEDs and Madrix Controller by The Light Lab.
