Lobby Chair ES 105 by Charles & Ray Eames, from Vitra

Vitra: Lobby Chair by Charles and Ray Eames

Consisting of three individual cushions joined together by aluminium side frames, the Lobby Chair was created by industrial design duo (and couple) Charles and Ray Eames in the 1960s. Originally designed to furnish lobby areas in New York’s Time Life Building, in the following years different versions were created that all have one fundamental thing in common: exceptional comfort. With Vitra now the sole authorised manufacturer of Eames products for Europe and the Middle East, the iconic Lobby Chair is available in three versions: the ES 104 office swivel chair, the ES 108 conference chair on glides, and the wider and lower ES 105 armchair, ideal for lounges and waiting areas.

Mater: Ocean Outdoor Chair

The latest launch by Danish green-tech furniture brand Mater, Ocean outdoor furniture was first designed in 1955 by Jørgen and Nanna Ditzel, one of the 20th century’s most renowned design duos. The range, first at home in residential garden settings, can also provide stylish seating in outdoor dining areas across restaurants, bars and hotels. Since 2019, Mater has been reimagining these robust designs, in an effort to tackle various waste streams, whilst simultaneously paying homage to Danish design heritage. Originally produced from wood veneer, Mater recently re-introduced the latest Ocean iteration in ‘Burnt Red’, which now combines post-consumer e-waste with fibreglass.

Normann Copenhagen: Mat Chair

Unveiled at its new showroom during Stockholm Design Week 2024, Normann Copenhagen‘s Mat chair is crafted from an innovative material that includes hemp and eelgrass, a type of seaweed. Designed by Danish studio Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen, the chair is a result of several years of research and the brand’s first foray into biomaterials. Referencing the material innovation at the core of the design, the Mat range – short for materials – has innovation and circularity at its core. The seating range is an exploration of how to create a contemporary shell chair with materials that have a lower environmental impact than the industry norm; designed for disassembly and recycling, the components of the Mat Chair can be recycled into new productions for a fully circular life cycle.

Pedrali: Toa Table

At home in both workplace and commercial residential spaces, Pedrali’s Toa Table features a technical-industrial style. Lightweight and aesthetically restrained, the Toa range is characterised by a solid die-cast aluminium frame, with standout features including its tapered bridge legs made of die-cast aluminium, which are thinner at the base and widen up towards the ‘T’ element that supports the top. Available in a broad range of sizes and with a decentralised cable access, Toa is available in a wide selection of colourful finishes.

Fritz Hansen: Tradition by Povl B. Eskildsen

Introducing a new interpretation of a timeless outdoor furniture series by Povl B. Eskildsen, Fritz Hansen’s Tradition brings the simple sophistication and innate function of Danish design to outdoor spaces. As a designer noted for his graphic simplicity, Eskildsen’s Tradition is a series of modular garden furniture rendered in beautiful and hardwearing teak. One of the brand’s most celebrated garden furniture series to date, Tradition sees solid, FSC-certified teak heartwood shaped and joined by hand to preserve its natural beauty, while ensuring a comfortable design with a timeless look. The durable material patinates to an elegant silver-grey hue with time and use, ensuring longevity and durability even in high-traffic commercial settings.

Fora Form: Dwell Rocker Chair

Dwell, crafted by Mattias Stenberg for Scandinavian manufacturer Fora Form, embodies an organic and timeless design inspired by the elegance of the 1920s and ‘30s. With its enveloping shape, this chair is intended to exude ‘warmth and safety’, while balancing beauty and practicality. Dwell’s robust, considered design – with curved, ergonomic armrests – ensures a comfortable and spacious seating experience fit for a broad range of interior schemes.

TAKT: Plint by Cecilie Manz

A meticulously crafted table with vegetable-tanned leather hinges and a simple self-assembly mechanism, Plint is Cecilie Manz’s first design for TAKT. A multiple award-winning industrial designer, Cecilie Manz has worked with some of the leading names in contemporary furniture and product design, including Fredericia Furniture, Duravit, Muuto and B&O. The Plint Coffee Table joins the brand’s existing collection of flatpack chairs, tables, benches and stools and introduces new functionality to the range, while embodying TAKT’s characteristic material focus on sustainable woods and timeless Scandinavian simplicity. Plint also shares TAKT’s emphasis on versatility: the rectangular table can function as a standalone coffee table or as a practical side table positioned against a wall.

Allermuir: Uku Chair

A delicate lounge chair crafted from oak, Allermuir’s Uku Chair is the vision of British designer Simon Pengelly. Designed to be harmonious and balanced, no individual feature is the main protagonist, allowing Uku to elegantly fit into any setting – be it homely hospitality or a workplace. With a subtle Scandinavian influence, Uku is stylishly unobtrusive, primarily in wood but with adaptable upholstered elements.

Gresham: Kulture Rox

Part of Gresham’s Kulture range, Rox is an innovative new rocking chair designed by Jo Day (director of sustainable furniture brand Rivr) and developed by Gresham’s in-house design team. This contemporary rocking chair focuses on comfort for dynamic sitting, with sleek plywood arms and a plush upholstered core, meaning the residential-inspired range is equally at home in hotel lounges and offices as it is in BTR schemes. “Research shows that movement while sitting increases blood circulation, reduces inflammation and releases endorphins, improving mood and reducing stress and pain,” explains the Gresham design team. “Rox combines this movement with an elegant silhouette which elevates any space, making it a stylish workspace addition.”
