sixteen3 has reimagined the Sedir range, its modular seating collection rooted in versatility and endurance, placing a new focus on sustainability to further future-proof its design.

Taking its name from the luxurious seating layouts synonymous with Ottoman palaces, Sedir is a modern interpretation of long, low, comfortable sofas which are effortlessly adaptable. With a myriad possible configurations — benches, chaise longues, seating islands and expansive sofa layouts — Sedir combines simple design, balanced proportions and understated aesthetics for an elegant and timeless appeal.

Consciously designed for exceptional levels of comfort, Sedir is skillfully handcrafted using superior quality upholstery foams and fibres and elasticated seat webbing.

Substituting conventional composites in favour of ecological alternatives, Sedir frames are now constructed using 62% AFB (Agricultural Fibre Board) — a natural, continuously renewable by-product of the agricultural industry.

Typical disposal processes would see leftover straw and reeds being composted or burned, releasing any CO2 the plants have absorbed throughout their growth into the atmosphere. This is turn partially reverses any positive environmental effects the crops have on the planet. sixteen3‘s Sedir repurposes these by-products, storing the carbon absorbed during their growth and negating the environmental consequences.

Boasting carbon-absorbing and renewable properties — plus low energy processes and recyclability — AFB achieves a carbon negative status as a material. Compared to conventional composites the pace of production is much quicker, as straw and reeds need minimal drying time in comparison to wood-based products. At the end of its life, AFB is 100% recyclable, biodegradable and compostable.

It’s this new and improved frame construction that makes the Sedir collection 59% recycled, and 96% recyclable. Having switched out its previous production methods for one that is much more sustainably enhanced, sixteen3 can offer a range with a drastically lowered carbon footprint.

The highly customisable Sedir collection offers an extensive range of upholstery finishes, with metal armrests available in 15 different powder coat colours.
